Melinda Doolittle continues to be the reason why I watch American Idol. If she doesn’t win, I will be sorely disappointed.
I’ll admit that tonight her rendition of “Sway” wasn’t her strongest performance (I still liked it), but hey everyone has an off day. And as she said, she had to give Simon an opportunity to criticize.
Tonight‘s theme — Latin music — seemed to be a tough nut to crack for the contestants. Much to the judges dislike, many chose fun songs over ones that would highlight their vocal capabilities.
Actually out of tonight’s performances, Blake Lewis’ “I Need to Know” would get my vote. He put together the whole package tonight. He took the song, made it his own and performed it well.
Jordin Spark and LaKisha Jones both put in solid performances with “The Rhythm’s Going to Get You” and “Conga,” respectively.
The other three had a decent showing, if nothing to shout about.
And once again, Sanjaya Malakar proves that while he doesn’t have the vocals to be a real contender, he knows how to play to the crowd.
We’ll find out what the rest of America thinks tomorrow when the result show expands to an hour.
