Scheduled to be released in July 2008, Mummy 3, the fourth movie in the Mummy franchise (if you include the Scorpian King) will focus on the adventures of Alex O’Connell, the son of Rick (Branden Fraser) and Evy (Rachel Weisz).
Together with Branden Fraser, who just sealed his deal to reprise his role according to Vanity, Alex will face the mummy of the first Emperor of Qin (Jet Li) as the villain in this sequel directed by Rob Cohen (xXx, Fast and the Furious).
But alas, the O’Connell boys’ adventures will be sans mom. Vanity also reports that Weisz will not be returning to reprise her roles as Evy O’Connell. Weisz, who won an Oscar last year for playing a pregnant woman in The Constant Gardner while she herself was pregnant in real life, is already appearing in four movies to be released in 2008 including Sin City 2. No word yet if John Hannah will return as Uncle Jonathan.
Both The Mummy and The Mummy Returns are staples in our house, so I look forward this sequel. Personally, I’m not familiar with Pettyfer’s work, but hope he can take Freddie Boath’s place as the always-in-trouble Alex. Weisz will be missed, but I’m glad that at least Fraser will be returning. My list of movies to see in 2008 is already starting to fill.
