The king of all skip days may be heading for a sequel. A script for a Ferris Bueller 2: Another Day Off is being shopped around. I don’t know if this new script will be picked up, but the thought of every high schoolers hero hitting the screen is intriguing.
In 1986, when Ferris Bueller’s Day Off came out I was just starting high School. Ferris was an icon to my friends and I. He and his friends really knew how skip school — the dream skip day. I never had a day off school like that.
But if the sequel hits the screen in won’t be another day off school for Ferris. Instead, the very successful self-help guru will take a day off from life on the day of his televised 40th birthday party much to the chagrin of his family and friends. The script gives you an update on all of the main characters from the original including Ferris’ friends, sister, principal (still bent on revenge) and homeroom teacher (Bueller . . . Bueller . . . Bueller).
The unknown scriptwriter Rick Rapier hopes if the script is picked up that the original cast will return along with John Hughes to direct.
I don’t know about you, but I could use that fantasy day off from life. I hope the script makes it to the big screen. It sounds like a lot of fun to me.
